And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man’s mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD?
The LORD said to him, 'Who made people able to speak? Who makes some people unable to speak or hear, and others able to see or be blind? Haven't I, the LORD, done all of this?'
God is reminding Moses that He is the one who created all people with their different abilities and disabilities, and He has complete control over human capabilities.
📚 Historical Context
This verse comes during Moses' conversation with God at the burning bush, where God was calling Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. Moses had been making excuses about why he couldn't do the job, including claiming he wasn't a good speaker. God responds by asserting His sovereignty over all human abilities and limitations.
