And it shall be Aaron’s and his sons’ by a statute for ever from the children of Israel: for it is an heave offering: and it shall be an heave offering from the children of Israel of the sacrifice of their peace offerings, even their heave offering unto the LORD.
And this will belong to Aaron and his sons forever as a permanent law from the people of Israel, because it is a special offering lifted up to God. It will be a lifted-up offering from the Israelites taken from their fellowship sacrifices, their special offering to the LORD.
God is establishing that certain portions of the people's sacrificial offerings will permanently belong to Aaron and his sons (the priests) as their provision.
📚 Historical Context
In the historical context of the Exodus, God was establishing the priesthood for the Israelites through Moses as part of the covenant at Sinai. Aaron and his sons were specifically chosen to serve as priests, and the heave offering from peace offerings was designated as their perpetual share to ensure they could focus on their sacred duties. This practice highlighted the community's responsibility to support those set apart for religious service.
