And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, that he shall follow after them; and I will be honoured upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host; that the Egyptians may know that I am the LORD. And they did so.
I will make Pharaoh stubborn so that he will chase after them. I will show my glory by defeating Pharaoh and his entire army, so that the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD. And the Israelites did as they were told.
God is telling Moses that He will make Pharaoh chase the Israelites so He can demonstrate His power and show everyone that He alone is the true God.
📚 Historical Context
This occurs right after the Israelites left Egypt following the tenth plague. God is preparing Moses for what's about to happen at the Red Sea, where Pharaoh's army will pursue the freed slaves. This moment sets up one of the most dramatic displays of God's power in the Old Testament - the parting of the Red Sea and the destruction of Egypt's military force.
