📚 Historical Context

In the Persian Empire during the reign of King Ahasuerus, likely around the 5th century BC, the story of Esther unfolds as a Jewish woman who has become queen and is navigating a dangerous plot against her people. At this point in the narrative, the king is hosting a second day of feasting and wine, where he expresses great favor toward Esther by offering to grant her any request, even up to half his kingdom, highlighting the opulence and arbitrary power of Persian royalty. This scene builds tension as Esther prepares to reveal the threat to the Jews orchestrated by Haman, her people's enemy.
