✦ SIMPLIFICADO

In the first month, called Nisan, during the twelfth year of King Ahasuerus's reign, they cast lots (called 'Pur') in front of Haman to choose the best day and month for his plan. They went through each day and each month until they reached the twelfth month, called Adar.

⚡ EN RESUMEN

This verse shows Haman using superstitious lot-casting to pick the 'lucky' date for his planned attack against the Jewish people.

📚 Historical Context

Haman had just received permission from King Ahasuerus to destroy all the Jews in the Persian Empire. Ancient peoples often used casting lots (similar to rolling dice) to make important decisions, believing the gods would guide the outcome. The irony is that Haman's 'lucky' date would give the Jews almost a full year to prepare and ultimately led to his own downfall.
