And the coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed thereupon: in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the evening: for the LORD their God shall visit them, and turn away their captivity.
Zephaniah was a prophet in Judah during the reign of King Josiah around 640-609 BC, a time when the nation was deeply involved in idolatry and facing threats from surrounding empires like Assyria and Babylon. In this verse, God promises that the remnant of Judah, the faithful survivors, will reclaim and settle in the coastal lands, including the Philistine city of Ashkelon, as a sign of His restoration after judgment. This reflects God's enduring covenant faithfulness to His people despite their unfaithfulness.
