Ye shall therefore describe the land into seven parts, and bring the description hither to me, that I may cast lots for you here before the LORD our God.

In the Book of Joshua, after the Israelites had conquered much of the Promised Land, seven tribes had not yet received their allotted territories, as the division of the land was an ongoing process under God's direction. Joshua instructed these tribes to survey the remaining land and describe it in seven parts, so that lots could be cast to fairly assign the portions before the Lord. This method of casting lots highlighted the reliance on divine providence to ensure the land was distributed according to God's promises to the Israelites.
