Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the LORD in the ears of the people in the LORD’s house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities.
In the biblical narrative, Jeremiah was a prophet during the late 7th century BC when Judah faced imminent threats from the Babylonian Empire due to their unfaithfulness to God. God commanded Jeremiah to dictate his prophecies to his scribe, Baruch, and have them read publicly in the temple on a fast day, a time when people gathered for religious reflection and repentance. This act was part of God's effort to warn the nation and urge them to turn back to Him before judgment fell.
