For thus saith the LORD touching Shallum the son of Josiah king of Judah, which reigned instead of Josiah his father, which went forth out of this place; He shall not return thither any more:
In the biblical narrative, King Josiah of Judah was a reformer who sought to bring the nation back to God through religious revival, but after his death in battle, his son Shallum, also known as Jehoahaz, briefly ascended to the throne. Shallum was quickly deposed by the Egyptian Pharaoh Neco during a period of regional power struggles and exiled to Egypt, where he died and never returned to Jerusalem. This prophecy from Jeremiah highlights God's judgment on the kings of Judah amid growing threats from foreign empires.
