This verse comes near the end of Genesis, after Jacob (Israel) had died and been buried in Canaan. Joseph had brought his entire family to Egypt during the great famine, and they settled there permanently. In ancient Egypt, living to 110 years was considered the ideal lifespan and a sign of divine blessing.
