And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom.
In the book of Genesis, Esau and Jacob were twin brothers born to Isaac and Rebekah, with Esau as the firstborn who was known for his skill as a hunter. One day, Esau returned from the field famished and impulsively traded his birthright, a significant inheritance and leadership role in the family, to Jacob for a simple bowl of red lentil stew. This event led to Esau being nicknamed Edom, which means "red," as a reference to the stew he craved so desperately.
