Moses spoke these words to the Israelites as they prepared to enter the Promised Land after 40 years in the wilderness. He was warning them that once they settled into prosperity in their new land, they might become comfortable and forget their dependence on God. This came right after God had miraculously delivered them from centuries of slavery in Egypt.
