Until the LORD have given rest unto your brethren, as well as unto you, and until they also possess the land which the LORD your God hath given them beyond Jordan: and then shall ye return every man unto his possession, which I have given you.
In the book of Deuteronomy, Moses is speaking to the Israelites as they prepare to enter the Promised Land after their victories in battles east of the Jordan River. The tribes that had already been allotted land on the east side, such as Reuben and Gad, were commanded to assist the other tribes in conquering the land west of the Jordan before returning to their own territories. This instruction emphasized the collective effort required for the nation to fully possess the inheritance God had promised them.
