Publish in the palaces at Ashdod, and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria, and behold the great tumults in the midst thereof, and the oppressed in the midst thereof.
Amos was a prophet from Judah who lived around 760-750 BC and preached to the Northern Kingdom of Israel during a time of economic prosperity but widespread social injustice and idolatry. In this verse, God commands that a message be proclaimed in the palaces of Ashdod, a Philistine city, and Egypt, calling these foreign powers to witness the chaos and oppression in Samaria, Israel's capital, as evidence of divine judgment. This highlights God's sovereignty in using surrounding nations to expose and punish Israel's sins.
