We will not return unto our houses, until the children of Israel have inherited every man his inheritance.
In the book of Numbers, the Israelites were preparing to enter the Promised Land after their long wanderings in the wilderness following the Exodus from Egypt. The tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half of Manasseh requested to settle in the fertile lands east of the Jordan River, but they made a pledge to Moses to first help the other tribes conquer and secure their territories. This verse captures their vow not to return home until every Israelite tribe had received their assigned inheritance in the land.
