This verse is part of Isaiah's prophecy about the Assyrian army's advance toward Jerusalem around 701 BC. Nob was a priestly city located on a hill just northeast of Jerusalem, giving a clear view of the city. The Assyrian commander would pause there to make threatening gestures toward Jerusalem before launching his final assault.
