And Joseph remembered the dreams which he dreamed of them, and said unto them, Ye are spies; to see the nakedness of the land ye are come.

In the Book of Genesis, Joseph had been sold into slavery by his jealous brothers and eventually rose to a position of great authority in Egypt through God's providence. Years later, a severe famine forced his brothers to travel to Egypt to buy grain, not recognizing the powerful official before them as their sibling. Upon seeing them, Joseph remembered the dreams God had given him earlier, in which his family bowed down to him, and he tested their character by accusing them of being spies to assess the land's vulnerabilities.
