And it came to pass, before he had done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder.
In the biblical narrative of Genesis, Abraham, who was advanced in age, sent his trusted servant on a mission to find a wife for his son Isaac from among his relatives in Mesopotamia, rather than from the local Canaanite people, to preserve his family's faith and lineage. The servant arrived at a well outside the city and prayed for a sign from God to identify the right woman, asking that she offer water not only for him but also for his camels. Almost immediately, before the servant finished praying, Rebekah appeared, carrying a pitcher on her shoulder, which began to fulfill his request.
