In the biblical narrative, Abram and his wife Sarai traveled to Egypt to escape a severe famine in the land God had promised them. Abram, fearing for his life, asked Sarai to pose as his sister to avoid Pharaoh taking her by force and possibly killing him. As a result, God intervened by sending plagues on Pharaoh and his household to protect Sarai and preserve His covenant with Abram.
