This occurs during the siege of Samaria when four lepers decided to surrender to the Syrian army rather than starve. Earlier, the prophet Elisha had predicted that food prices would dramatically drop the next day, which seemed impossible during the famine. God had caused the Syrian army to hear the sound of a great army approaching, causing them to flee in panic and abandon all their supplies.
