This is God's message through the prophet Isaiah to Sennacherib, king of Assyria, who had besieged Jerusalem and blasphemed God around 701 BC. The Assyrians were known for their brutal conquest methods, including literally putting hooks through prisoners' noses and lips to lead them away as captives. God is turning their own humiliating practices back on them as judgment.
