Wherefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against Amaziah, and he sent unto him a prophet, which said unto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, which could not deliver their own people out of thine hand?
In the historical narrative of 2 Chronicles, Amaziah was the king of Judah who had recently achieved a military victory over the Edomites. Despite this success, he foolishly began to worship the gods of the Edomites, which were mere powerless idols that couldn't even protect their own people. This idolatry directly led to God's anger, prompting Him to send a prophet to confront and warn Amaziah about his unfaithfulness.
