But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king’s sons which were slain; and they hid him, even him and his nurse, in the bedchamber from Athaliah, so that he was not slain.
In the divided kingdom of Israel and Judah, after King Ahaziah of Judah was killed in battle, his mother Athaliah seized the throne by ordering the massacre of the royal family to eliminate any threats to her rule. Jehosheba, Ahaziah's sister and the wife of the high priest Jehoiada, bravely rescued her nephew Joash, the infant son of Ahaziah, by hiding him and his nurse in a bedroom within the temple grounds. This act preserved the Davidic line, which was essential to God's covenant promises for Israel's future kings.
