After King Solomon's death, the people of Israel were dissatisfied with the heavy taxes and forced labor imposed during his reign, leading to growing unrest among the tribes. They summoned Rehoboam, Solomon's son and the newly crowned king, to present their grievances and seek relief. Jeroboam, a former official who had fled to Egypt after being prophesied to lead the northern tribes, returned to represent the people in this critical assembly.
