This genealogy was written after Israel's return from Babylonian exile to help the people reconnect with their tribal heritage and land inheritance rights. Manasseh was one of Joseph's two sons who received portions of the Promised Land. Concubines were secondary wives in ancient times, and their children could still inherit and carry on the family name, though with different status than children of primary wives.
