And I will surely hide my face in that day for all the evils which they shall have wrought, in that they are turned unto other gods.
And I will certainly turn away from them on that day because of all the evil things they will have done, since they have turned to worship other gods.
God is saying He will withdraw His presence and protection when His people abandon Him to worship false gods.
📚 Historical Context
In the book of Deuteronomy, Moses is delivering his final speeches to the Israelites as they prepare to enter the Promised Land after their exodus from Egypt, emphasizing the importance of obeying God's covenant. This verse warns of the consequences of idolatry, where turning to other gods would lead God to hide His face, symbolizing His withdrawal of protection and favor amid their unfaithfulness. This reflects the historical pattern in Israel's history of covenant blessings and curses based on their loyalty to God.
