And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.
And the Levite (because he has no land or inheritance like you do), along with the foreigner, the orphan, and the widow who live in your towns, will come and eat until they are full. When you care for them like this, the LORD your God will bless you in everything you do with your hands.
God is promising to bless those who generously share their resources with people who have no one else to provide for them.
📚 Historical Context
In the time of Moses, the Levites were a tribe dedicated to serving God in the tabernacle and later the temple, and they were not allotted land like the other tribes, so they relied on tithes for their sustenance. This verse is part of the instructions for the third-year tithe, which was to be shared with the Levites, foreigners, orphans, and widows to ensure they were cared for. By obeying this command, the Israelites demonstrated their faithfulness to God's covenant and His concern for the vulnerable in society.
