📚 Historical Context
In the sixth century BC, during the Babylonian exile, King Nebuchadnezzar ruled a vast empire and demanded unwavering loyalty from his officials and subjects. He erected a massive golden image as a display of his authority and summoned all provincial leaders to its dedication, reflecting the common ancient Near Eastern practice of using idols to enforce political and religious unity. This event highlights the tension between imperial demands and the faith of exiled Israelites like Daniel.
