And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.
You saw those feet and toes that were part clay, part iron? That kingdom is going to be split up. It'll have some of that iron strength you noticed, but here's the thing, iron and wet clay don't actually stick together well.
Strong foundations mixed with weak spots? That's not going to hold up for long.
📚 Historical Context
In the Book of Daniel, the prophet is interpreting King Nebuchadnezzar's dream of a massive statue that represents a sequence of world empires, from Babylon onward. The feet and toes, made of iron mixed with clay, symbolize a future kingdom that is divided and unstable, reflecting a mixture of strength and fragility. This vision was given during the Babylonian exile, emphasizing God's sovereignty over the rise and fall of human powers.
