And he gave him none inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on: yet he promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child.
God didn't give Abraham even a tiny piece of that land, not even enough space to stand on. But he promised that one day, Abraham and his descendants would own the whole thing. Plot twist: Abraham didn't even have kids yet when God made this promise.
God makes promises about futures we can't even imagine yet.
📚 Historical Context
In Acts 7, Stephen is delivering a defense speech before the Jewish council, recounting key events from Israel's history to demonstrate God's faithfulness. This verse specifically refers to God's promise to Abraham in the book of Genesis, where Abraham was given no land to inherit during his lifetime, not even a foothold, despite being a wanderer in Canaan. At that time, Abraham had no children, yet God assured him that his descendants would one day possess the land, emphasizing the long-term nature of divine promises.
