📚 Historical Context
In Acts 27, Paul is on a ship sailing to Rome as a prisoner when a violent storm hits, putting the vessel in grave danger. The sailors take emergency measures, such as undergirding the ship with ropes to hold it together and lowering the sails to avoid the treacherous Syrtis sandbanks off the North African coast. This event reflects the common perils of ancient Mediterranean sea travel, where storms could easily lead to shipwreck.
