And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.
She kept doing this for days. Paul was getting really frustrated by it, so he turned around and spoke directly to the spirit: 'In Jesus Christ's name, I'm telling you to leave her alone.' And just like that, the spirit left her immediately.
Paul had enough and used Jesus' name to free someone from spiritual harassment, and it worked instantly.
📚 Historical Context
In Acts 16, Paul and Silas were on their second missionary journey in Philippi, a prosperous Roman colony in Macedonia, where they encountered a slave girl who was possessed by a spirit of divination and used by her owners for profit through fortune-telling. This girl followed them for several days, repeatedly announcing that they were servants of the Most High God, which, while accurate, seemed to be a mocking or disruptive interference from a demonic source. Paul, growing weary of this, finally commanded the spirit to leave her in the name of Jesus Christ, demonstrating the apostles' authority over evil forces in the early church's expansion.
