And he shall pass through the sea with affliction, and shall smite the waves in the sea, and all the deeps of the river shall dry up: and the pride of Assyria shall be brought down, and the sceptre of Egypt shall depart away.
He'll walk right through the stormy sea, calming every crashing wave, and even the deepest rivers will dry up at his command. The arrogance of Assyria will be humbled, and Egypt's power will completely fade away.
When God moves, even the most powerful forces of nature and nations have to step aside.
📚 Historical Context
Zechariah was a prophet who ministered to the Jewish people after their return from Babylonian exile, offering messages of hope and restoration amid their struggles with surrounding nations. This verse draws on the Exodus imagery of God parting the sea to symbolize divine intervention, promising that God would lead His people through afflictions and defeat oppressors like Assyria and Egypt, which had historically dominated Israel. It reflects the broader biblical theme of God's sovereign control over history and the downfall of proud empires.
