Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.
If you push through and don't give up, I'll make you like a permanent pillar in God's temple, you'll have a secure place that no one can take away. I'll write God's name on you, plus the name of his city (that's the new Jerusalem coming down from heaven), and my own new name too.
Keep going when life gets hard, and God will give you a permanent place in his family with his name written all over you.
📚 Historical Context
In the first century AD, the apostle John wrote the Book of Revelation as a series of letters to seven churches in Asia Minor, including Philadelphia, during a time of intense Roman persecution when Christians faced pressure to abandon their faith. This verse uses symbolic language drawn from Old Testament prophecies and the cultural importance of temples, where pillars represented stability and permanence, to encourage believers to remain faithful. It promises eternal rewards for those who overcome, reflecting the hope of a new order in God's kingdom.
