And there were certain men, who were defiled by the dead body of a man, that they could not keep the passover on that day: and they came before Moses and before Aaron on that day:
There were some men who had become ceremonially unclean by touching a dead person, which meant they couldn't celebrate the Passover on the appointed day. So they came to Moses and Aaron that same day to ask what they should do.
Some men who had touched a dead body couldn't participate in Passover because they were ceremonially unclean, so they brought their problem to Moses and Aaron for guidance.
📚 Historical Context
In the book of Numbers, the Israelites were wandering in the wilderness after their exodus from Egypt, and God was giving specific instructions for observing the Passover as a remembrance of their deliverance. These men had become ceremonially unclean by touching a dead body, which under the laws given to Moses made them temporarily unfit to participate in the Passover feast on the appointed day. As a result, they approached Moses and Aaron, the appointed leaders, to seek guidance on how to handle their situation.
