And they shall put upon it all the vessels thereof, wherewith they minister about it, even the censers, the fleshhooks, and the shovels, and the basons, all the vessels of the altar; and they shall spread upon it a covering of badgers’ skins, and put to the staves of it.
They must place on it all the tools used for worship there: the incense burners, the meat forks, the shovels, and the bowls, all the altar equipment. Then they must spread a covering of durable leather over it and insert the carrying poles.
This verse describes how the Israelites were to carefully pack and prepare the altar and its tools for transport, covering everything with protective leather.
📚 Historical Context
In the Book of Numbers, God was providing detailed instructions to the Levites, specifically the Kohathites, on how to carefully handle and transport the sacred items of the Tabernacle during the Israelites' journeys through the wilderness. This was crucial because direct exposure to these holy objects could result in death, emphasizing the need for reverence and order in maintaining God's presence among the people. The verse focuses on covering the altar and its utensils, like censers and shovels, to protect them and preserve their sanctity.
