📚 Historical Context
In the book of Numbers, the Israelites were commanded by God to wage war against the Midianites as retribution for their role in leading the people into idolatry and immorality. After the battle, Moses instructed the division of the captured spoils to ensure fairness between the warriors who risked their lives and the rest of the community. This reflected the ancient Israelite practice of sharing resources to maintain unity and order within the nation.
