And Balaam rose up in the morning, and said unto the princes of Balak, Get you into your land: for the LORD refuseth to give me leave to go with you.
The next morning, Balaam got up and told Balak's officials, 'Go back to your own country, because the LORD will not allow me to come with you.'
Balaam is telling the messengers that God has refused to let him go curse Israel, so they need to return home without him.
📚 Historical Context
In the Book of Numbers, the Israelites are encamped near the land of Moab as they journey toward the Promised Land, and King Balak of Moab fears their vast numbers and military strength. He sends princes with an offer to Balaam, a pagan prophet known for his divinations, to curse the Israelites and weaken them. When God directly intervenes and tells Balaam not to go with the princes or curse His people, Balaam initially obeys by sending the messengers away.
