Thus speak unto the Levites, and say unto them, When ye take of the children of Israel the tithes which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then ye shall offer up an heave offering of it for the LORD, even a tenth part of the tithe.
Tell the Levites this: When you receive the tithes from the Israelites that I have given you as your inheritance, you must offer a portion of it back to the LORD as a special offering—specifically, one-tenth of the tithe you received.
God is telling the Levites that even though they receive tithes from others, they must also give back to God by offering a tenth of what they receive.
📚 Historical Context
The Levites were the priestly tribe of Israel who didn't receive land inheritance like the other tribes. Instead, God provided for them through the tithes (10% offerings) that the other Israelites gave. This verse establishes that even the Levites, who lived off the generosity of others, were required to give back to God from what they received.
