And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
Jesus told them, 'It's because you don't believe. I'm telling you the truth, if you had even the tiniest bit of real faith, like a mustard seed, you could tell this mountain to move over there and it would actually move. Nothing would be impossible for you.'
Even the smallest real faith can move mountains, literally nothing is off limits.
📚 Historical Context
In the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 17, Jesus has just come down from the mountain after his transfiguration, where he revealed his glory to Peter, James, and John. The disciples had failed to heal a boy possessed by a demon, leading Jesus to explain that their unbelief was the issue and that even a tiny faith could achieve great things. This reflects the first-century Jewish context, where faith in God's power was essential for miracles and spiritual authority.
