And Jesus answering said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings? there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
Jesus turned to him and said, 'You see all these massive buildings? I'm telling you, there's going to come a day when not a single stone will be left stacked on top of another. Everything's going to come down.'
Even the most impressive things we build don't last forever, Jesus sees the bigger picture.
📚 Historical Context
In the historical context, Jesus was speaking to his disciples on the Mount of Olives, shortly after they admired the impressive Temple in Jerusalem, which was a central symbol of Jewish worship and national identity. He prophesied its total destruction as a warning of coming judgment, reflecting the tensions between Jewish authorities and Roman rule. This prophecy was fulfilled in AD 70 when the Romans destroyed the Temple during the siege of Jerusalem.
