✦ MADE SIMPLE

Then Jesus told them this story: You don't take a piece from a brand new outfit to patch up your old clothes. If you do that, you've just ruined the new outfit, and the patch won't even match the old one anyway.

⚡ THE BOTTOM LINE

Some things are meant to be completely new, not just patched up versions of the old.

📚 Historical Context

In the time of Jesus, the Jewish people observed strict religious traditions, including regular fasting as a practice of devotion and repentance. Jesus used this parable to respond to critics, such as the Pharisees, who questioned why his disciples did not fast like others, illustrating that his new message of the kingdom could not simply be added to the old ways of the law. This event took place during Jesus' early ministry in Galilee, as he taught and performed miracles to reveal God's new covenant.
