And yet for all that, when they be in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the LORD their God.
But even when they are living as captives in their enemies' land, I will not completely reject them or hate them enough to destroy them completely and break my promise to them, because I am the LORD their God.
God is promising that even when His people are punished and taken captive by their enemies, He will never completely abandon them or break His covenant with them.
📚 Historical Context
This verse comes at the end of a chapter where God outlines both blessings for obedience and severe consequences for disobedience, including exile from the promised land. The Israelites had not yet entered the promised land when Moses spoke these words, but God was already promising that even future punishment would not mean permanent abandonment. This prophecy would later be fulfilled when the Israelites were taken captive to Babylon but eventually returned to their homeland.
