And that ye may put difference between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean;
So that you may distinguish between what is holy and what is not holy, and between what is unclean and what is clean.
God is teaching His people to understand the difference between what is sacred and ordinary, pure and impure.
📚 Historical Context
In the book of Leviticus, which provides laws and instructions for the Israelites after their exodus from Egypt, this verse follows the immediate aftermath of Aaron's sons, Nadab and Abihu, being consumed by fire for offering unauthorized fire before the Lord. God was emphasizing to the priests the critical need to maintain strict boundaries between the holy and the unholy, as well as the clean and the unclean, to protect the purity of worship and the community. This directive was part of establishing the priesthood's role in teaching and upholding God's standards among the people.
