And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.
When they blow a long blast on the ram's horn trumpet and you hear that sound, all the people must shout loudly together. Then the wall of the city will collapse completely flat, and each person can go straight up into the city right in front of where they're standing.
God is promising that when the Israelites follow His specific instructions to shout at the trumpet blast, He will supernaturally bring down Jericho's walls so they can enter the city.
📚 Historical Context
This verse is part of God's battle plan for conquering the fortified city of Jericho, the first major obstacle the Israelites faced after crossing the Jordan River into the Promised Land. Jericho had massive, seemingly impregnable walls that would normally require a long siege to overcome. God's unusual strategy of marching around the city for seven days and then shouting would demonstrate that victory came through divine power, not military might.
