And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.
And you must absolutely stay away from the things that are marked for destruction, or you will bring a curse on yourselves. If you take any of these forbidden things, you will bring a curse on the entire camp of Israel and cause terrible trouble for everyone.
God is warning the Israelites that taking anything He has marked as forbidden will bring disaster not just on them personally, but on their entire community.
📚 Historical Context
This warning came just before the conquest of Jericho, where God commanded that everything in the city except Rahab's family be destroyed as an offering to Him. The precious metals were to go to God's treasury, but all other items were to be completely destroyed. This was part of God's judgment on the Canaanites for their corrupt practices and idol worship.
