And there fell ten portions to Manasseh, beside the land of Gilead and Bashan, which were on the other side Jordan;
So Manasseh received ten portions of land, in addition to the regions of Gilead and Bashan, which were on the east side of the Jordan River.
This verse describes how the tribe of Manasseh received ten sections of land in Canaan, plus additional territory they already had on the east side of the Jordan River.
📚 Historical Context
This occurs during Joshua's distribution of the Promised Land among the twelve tribes of Israel after their conquest of Canaan. The tribe of Manasseh was unique because they received land on both sides of the Jordan River - some families had already settled in Gilead and Bashan to the east, while others received portions in the main area of Canaan to the west. This division happened because Manasseh was a large tribe and needed more territory to accommodate all their families.
