In the Gospel of John, this verse is part of the account where Jesus' disciples are rowing across the Sea of Galilee after he had fed a large crowd of five thousand people with just five loaves and two fish. They had rowed about three to four miles into the lake during a stormy night when they suddenly saw Jesus walking on the water toward their boat, which demonstrated his miraculous control over nature.
