If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
If you belonged to this world, it would totally embrace you as one of its own. But you don't belong here anymore, I chose you and pulled you out of all that. That's exactly why the world can't stand you.
When you're chosen by Jesus, don't expect the world to get it, you're playing by different rules now.
📚 Historical Context
In the first century AD, during the Last Supper, Jesus was speaking to his disciples as part of his farewell discourse, preparing them for the challenges they would face after his departure. This was a time of intense religious and political tension in Judea under Roman rule, where followers of Jesus were increasingly seen as threats to established powers. Jesus used this teaching to emphasize that his disciples were chosen and set apart from the world, which would inevitably lead to conflict and hatred from those who opposed him.
