Turn from him, that he may rest, till he shall accomplish, as an hireling, his day.
Look away from him, so he can have some peace, until he finishes his day like a hired worker.
Job is asking God to give him some relief from suffering, just like a hired worker deserves rest after completing their daily work.
📚 Historical Context
In the Book of Job, which is set in the ancient Near East during the patriarchal era, Job is a righteous man enduring severe suffering and loss as part of a divine test of his faith. He speaks these words in a poetic lament to God, pleading for temporary relief from his trials and comparing human life to that of a hired laborer who works tirelessly until the end of the day. This reflects the cultural view of life as a season of hardship followed by rest, emphasizing the brevity and purpose of earthly existence.
